I was troubled for a good many years with catarrh and...
I was troubled for a good many years with catarrh and related ailments, for which I had tried a number of doctors and all kinds of medicine. I also traveled about to various health resorts and springs, but these afforded no relief. When, however, Christian Science was taken up in our family, I was healed. We have now been studying its teachings over eight years, during which time we have depended on divine Love for all our help, and I can truthfully say that my entire family has been benefited in every way since taking up this truth.
We have had a good many problems to solve, but the one that confronted us in January, 1912, during extremely cold weather, was different from any of the rest in that it seemed more serious and tried our faith to the utmost. In order to reach a water-tank, I was climbing an iron ladder, the rungs of which were covered with ice, when I slipped and fell to a gravel roof below, and was taken up in a badly injured condition. An ambulance and a doctor were sent for by the factory watchman, as it was Sunday, and I was taken home, where I lay unconscious for about twenty-five hours. The doctor informed my wife that my injuries were of an extremely serious nature and required special and prompt treatment; whereupon she told him that we were Christian Scientists and would not employ any material means, but would trust all to God. The doctor was persistent, however, in saying that the gravity of the situation demanded his services and that there was no time to lose; but my wife was implicit in her faith and sent for a Christian Science practitioner. The result was, that in a little over three weeks I was able to attend to my duties.
The doctor called up the morning after the accident to find out what kind of a night we had, and expressed great surprise when told that I had a quiet and peaceful night. The day following, another doctor was sent to us by the firm. He stated that he had been sent to wait on me and give my case his undivided attention, but we told him that I was being taken care of. He called again later in the day with an assistant, and made an examination and took notes.
