Gratitude for divine Love, made manifest through quick...

Gratitude for divine Love, made manifest through quick deliverance from pain that seemed to be unbearable, impels me to give expression to it in this testimony. As I think over the many blessings that have come to us since I began to learn of God's allness through Christian Science, my gratitude grows, and my desire to know more of God increases.

Perhaps one of the most impressive instances, to me, of God's nearness came while I was still young in this Science, and while I was going each day for help of which I seemed to be sadly in need. One evening while we were at dinner, we heard a noise as of a falling object in the kitchen, and a cry that caused us all to hold our breath. On reaching the spot I saw the kettle of hot lard overturned on the floor, and the maid standing in agony beside the sink, trying to wash the lard from her hands and face. For the moment, my extremity, in not knowing what to do, seemed to be as great as hers, but immediately the thought came to me that I must and could know the truth for her. She signified her desire to have Christian Science help, and as I stood there I realized clearly that God, infinite Love, could not let one of His children suffer as she seemed to be suffering. In a few minutes she stopped crying and said the pain had lessened, and as it was Wednesday evening I started out for church with a light heart. On my return I went to her room, and no one who has not had the joy of demonstrating Christian Science can know the happiness that I experienced when she said, rubbing the purple cheeks, "See, there is no pain there at all." It was nearly two weeks before the unnatural color from the burns left her face and hands, but the suffering was gone.

Although this instance stands out preeminently as a proof of the truth of Christian Science, yet as I recall the many blessings that followed, they crowd in upon my thought so fast it would be impossible for me to give expression to them all in one testimony. There is one healing in particular, however, that I should like to mention. It is of an injury which under ordinary circumstances would doubtless have kept me housed for many days. I wrenched my ankle in the morning, and about noon the conditions seemed to be so much worse that I asked a practitioner for help. At night the ankle was so swollen and so painful that I could not put my foot to the floor, but in the morning I thought I would at least make the effort to get up, and what was my joy to find the ankle well! I was on my feet all the following day, shopping, and experienced no further inconvenience from the sprain.
