With ever increasing gratitude, I would add my voice to...
With ever increasing gratitude, I would add my voice to the song that is swelling throughout the world today, coming from the hearts of those who have found freedom from bondage through the teachings of Christian Science. I can say with the psalmist: "Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. . . . Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with loving-kindness and tender mercies." I derived benefit from this teaching from the very first, and have steadily gained in physical health and understanding of the truth.
In looking back over a period of three and a half years, God has indeed done all this for me. At that time I was a pitiable wreck, feeling that death was inevitable, and I was striving to bow to what I supposed was God's will, although I was crushed with the thought of leaving my dear husband and two little children who I felt needed me. I had prayed for light; I had besought the great Physician for healing, so when a dear sister brought to me these words: "God does not want to take you from your children; it is not His will that you should die," they were words of such comfort and solace that I at once took courage. A trip that had been planned for me was made without fatigue, and the necessary time was thus afforded me for the study of Christian Science. While from childhood I had loved God and tried to live a Christian life, ever looking to the Scriptures for guidance, yet I can truthfully say that the Bible was never so dear to me, never such a priceless treasure, as it is today, as its treasures unfold to me more and more in the light that Christian Science throws upon its pages.
From invalidism I have little by little resumed an active life, until today I manage my own home, am educating my two children personally, and attend to a little business besides. I am busy from six in the morning until nine at night every day but Sunday, when I give all the time I can spare to the study of our literature. Christian Science has been the only physician for myself and two children during these three and a half years, with one exception, when the law required that a doctor be called. He was then dismissed and none of his medicine taken, and every law of materia medica was made null and void through the power of Truth. In a recent siege of persecution, where prejudice and jealousy tried to upset my peace of mind and rob me of my rights as a citizen and parent, I was sustained by divine Love. The "everlasting arms" bore me up, and knowing that I was in the right, I waited upon God until things were adjusted. Needless to say, I came out the victor, and in reading an article in a copy of the Sentinel I thought how true are the words, "No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper." I am very grateful for all our Christian Science literature. Living as I do, where I cannot attend the church services, these messengers of Truth are a great blessing; and to know that we are all united in the study of the Lesson-Sermon each week is very helpful.
