South Bend (Ind.) News-Times
The notion held to by some people who have not taken the trouble to investigate is that Christian Science lays emphasis on physical healing practically to the exclusion of everything else. This probably explains the erroneous reference to Christian Science in a sermon by a clergyman as reported in a recent issue.
Christian Science is bringing the kingdom of heaven to mankind by instructing human consciousness how to understand and apply the laws of God. In doing this, it is healing every form of sin by stimulating in mortals a desire to be governed by purer thoughts and desires; it is destroying envy, jealousy, strife, and hatred by giving to mankind a practical understanding of Love; it is destroying poverty, lack, and human misery by a demonstrable understanding that God cares for His children. Christian Science is doing all these works, as well as healing every disease known to mortals, through the Science of divine Mind, as taught and demonstrated in the life and works of the great Wayshower, Christ Jesus.
It will be seen that the healing of bodily ills is not primarily the object of Christian Science, but these works simply prove its divine origin, and are the "signs following" to which the Master referred. This fact is further brought out in the Wednesday evening testimony meetings, where the statement is made by a large majority of the speakers, that while the physical and moral regeneration is cause for rejoicing, the spiritual uplift is the greatest proof that Christian Science is God's plan for bringing the kingdom of heaven, or the reign of harmony, to mankind.
