SYMPATHY

When sorrow comes to one I love,
I would not dare
To send mere words of sympathy;
I need must care
Enough to send a message of good cheer,
To tell the loved one that all good is here.

I would destroy as best I could
The sense of grief,
By showing that all else than good
Is false belief.
If in this way a ray of light I bring
To one I love, with joy my heart shall sing.
