I would like to tell others why I am so sure of the truth...
I would like to tell others why I am so sure of the truth of the teachings of Christian Science and why I am so grateful to Mrs. Eddy for sharing her glorious discovery with all mankind. Three years ago I, a middle-aged business man in London, was stricken down by a disease of the spine which manifested itself in various ways, one of them being a partial paralysis of the legs, accompanied by emaciation of the body and limbs. I was told by a specialist, in consultation with my regular doctor, that this disease was incurable, that it would grow worse, and that I would have to spend the remainder of my life on bed.
This verdict was a great blow to me, and as a result I became worse. I could no longer endure the daily journey from my house in the suburbs to my office in London, so in June, 1909, I sold the business and took to my bed. After about a month I was able to get up, but I spent the bulk of every day on a couch, being able to walk alone a very short distance in the vicinity of my home, and to take longer journeys only with assistance. I was in this condition for about a year, and my bodily and mental suffering throughout that time may be imagined, for besides being unable to walk any distance, I was dependent on my business for my living and had a growing up family to support.
When Christian Science came to me, I did not believe in it at all, but after a time I consented to be treated by a practitioner simply because I thought it would please my wife, who was then becoming interested in Science. After a few weeks I found, to my astonishment, that I had been healed of a slight ailment which I had had all my life, and which years ago had been treated without success by doctors in England and America, and to which I was so accustomed that I thought little of it. Then I knew without a shadow of doubt that Christian Science was the truth, and I turned to God with my whole heart, and from that time I made steady and sure progress toward recovery. Now I am healed! I can walk any distance that may be necessary, while the emaciation and all the other symptoms of the disease have disappeared; and not only am I healed, but I am back again in business.
