I feel it a privilege to send my testimony, hoping it may benefit others as I have been benefited by reading the numerous testimonies of healing. Before knowing of Christian Science I had been more or less delicate from childhood. I suffered from severe stomach trouble, which developed, according to the doctors, a complication of diseases. Many times they found it necessary to remove me to and from hospitals on a stretcher and by ambulance. Seven doctors said I was a hopeless case, and on one occasion three doctors, standing by my bed, said I would not live until morning. I continued in this way until the physician who last attended me refused to give me any more medicine, and ordered a change of climate, which I resisted, since on many previous occasions I had come back as bad as I went. It was at this point that Christian Science was brought to my notice. I was loaned a copy of Science and Health, and on reading just a few lines on page 14 of the chapter on Prayer, I was instantaneously healed, and began to eat my food in a natural way, which I had been unable to do, for at times I even had to be fed with a tube. I have had no further trouble in this way since my healing in Christian Science, which is now nearly eight years.
I have also been healed of a trouble which appeared every winter, a severe cold on chest and lungs, oftentimes being at the point of death. The first winter after my other healing, this same illness appeared in its usual way; but with the little understanding I had of Christian Science, I was able to overcome it in three days, attending to my business as usual, and I did not have any blisters, etc., which the doctors had found necessary to apply on previous occasions. The following winter I awoke early one morning with the usual symptoms of this disease, but was able to overcome them in less than one hour, through the understanding of Christian Science, and I have not had another attack during the past five winters. I have also been healed of continual fainting spells.
The healing in my case has been very wonderful indeed, but for the spiritual uplift, for daily peace and joy in the consciousness of God as ever-present Life, Truth, and Love, and man as God's image and likeness, I am even more thankful. To be free from all that is unlike God, to know that sin, sickness, and death are not sent by our Father,—the understanding of this, even in small degree, brings a peace that passes all human understanding.
