I feel that I can no longer wait to tell of my instantaneous healing about a year ago, at which time I was teaching in New Jersey. I had always been proud of my health and had never taken any drugs, relying on health laws, and especially on fresh air. In my new environment many of what I considered essential conditions for comfort and health had to be dispensed with, with the result that I became sick.

I had owned a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy for four years, and was sufficiently convinced of the truth of its teachings to declare many times that if I were ever sick, I should have a practitioner instead of a medical doctor, but alas! I had left my book at home. The attack was sudden, and I was in the school hospital under the care of three nurses and two doctors before I had time to think. I recovered quickly, but before the week was out I was down again, and this time the doctors said it was a more serious matter.

I was examined by a specialist from Philadelphia to confirm their fears, and I had a very high fever. Then it was that fear took possession of me, as I was beginning to have the symptoms they had asked about, with the prospect of being taken to the hospital on the morrow for an operation, and perhaps being deaf for life, as a dear member of my family had been. Then it was that I turned from material means which had failed, and under which I was getting worse, and asked my nurse to write to a friend in Boston to send me Christian Science help. It was late at night, but she wrote the letter and gave it to the night watchman to post, and then in the darkness I applied what truth I knew. I can never tell what peace I felt when I had taken this step. I knew that I was going to be healed; and let me say, for the benefit of those looking for healing, that mental harmony must come before the material senses agree to the spiritual evidence.
