It has long been my desire to express the gratitude for Christian Science which daily wells up in my heart. It is now more than five years since I had my thought turned away from the false sense of life as existent in matter, toward the contemplation of the truth of being as taught in Christian Science. The mental journey which I have traveled, and am still pursuing, has not been one over "flowery beds of ease; it has more often led along the strait and narrow way. With me it has been "precept upon precept; line upon line;" and the word of God, so beautifully interpreted in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, has been a "light unto my path."

I had been a Bible student all my life, but after years of belief in theories, I had become dissatisfied and had about reached the conclusion that "What is truth?" was an unanswerable question. It was in the darkest hour of bereavement and affliction, when humanity, however willing, could offer me no aid, that I was led rather reluctantly to investigate Christian Science, and began the study of its marvelous text-book. My mentality demanded the surest proofs every step of the way; but as a little understanding, gained and applied, was rewarded with "signs following," I was soon willing to accept what Mrs. Eddy tells us, namely, that "a simple statement of Christian Science, if demonstrated by healing, contains the proof of all here said of Christian Science" (Science and Health, p. 547). I strive to be patient with those who do not understand this teaching, and who consequently misrepresent it, because I used to think that many of these things ought to be otherwise stated.

Many have been the physical imperfections overcome for myself and members of our household. I cannot express the joy experienced in being freed from neuralgia, rheumatism, and a chronic bowel disorder. Though some ills of the flesh yet remain to be vanquished, I am indeed grateful for this knowledge which is able to meet every discordant condition when faithfully and persistently applied; for I know that God's grace is sufficient to overcome all discord, and that none seek His face in vain. I send this with loving gratitude to the giver of every good and perfect gift, and to Mrs. Eddy for directing us in the right way and proving to us that "there is a power to make each hour as sweet as heaven designed it."
