FORGIVENESS

"How oft shall I forgive?" Ah! Well-a-day!
How many hearts the ages through have asked!
And yet the Master taught we cannot pray
While unforgiveness in our thought is masked.

"How oft shall I forgive? Till seven times?"
(While yet, perchance, forgiveness is not sought)
And still the answer through the ages chimes:
The debt forgiven hath thy forgiveness bought.

"How oft shall I forgive?" Unceasingly,
Until the deepest depth of Love's revealed.
But know, for comfort on thy Calvary,
Each wrong forgiven hath thine ascension sealed.
