[Written for the Sentinel.]

THE LARK

He sang of life and libertyAnd joy he could not speak,He sang down in the valleyAnd he sang up on the peak.He sang among the sunbeamsAnd he sang amid the snow,—He sang because his heart was fullOf only good, you know.

He sang while soaring upwardOf the thoughts he could not speak—Of the glory of the sunbeamsAnd the light upon the peak;Of the peace found in the valley,And the radiance of the snow,Telling of Love, and Life, and Truth,—Of only God, you know.
