When I took up the study of Christian Science I was not very sick or very sinful, and was not always a happy Christian, but I was so far away from Christian Science that I never heard it mentioned and did not even know that there was a text-book. While suffering greatly from backache, I was asked by a lady, not herself a student, why I did not try Christian Science, since it could do me no harm even if it did no good. She then told me of her own healing of a fistula, and I went perhaps three or four times to a practitioner, and was almost elated to think that it had not touched me, although it had the lady who had been healed, and who had always been so far above me mentally. Later, it occurred to me that if a disease had disappeared under Christian Science treatment it must be because Christian Scientists understood Jesus' teachings better than the members of my own church did, since they could claim more of the promises. I also saw that since God is just, I, too, could with earnest seeking gain this understanding; and I am finding the "pearl of great price."

During the three years since then, my little boy and myself have had many instantaneous healings in cases of burns, stings of insects, etc. Besides this, whooping-cough, hives, earache, and an abscess have been overcome without pain, although it seemed necessary to have the abscess lanced by a surgeon, since the other members of the family are not interested in Christian Science. This boy had been considered delicate, and the year before I commenced the study Christian Science he had been at school but six weeks. According to materia medica, bronchitis and fever are supposed to leave the system weaker, but he is now almost free from colds, while before I took up this study he had frequent colds and also attacks of croup.

To me this means much more than my own physical healing, although eye trouble, backache, headache, and nervousness have almost entirely disappeared; but the physical healing seems very small in comparison with the understanding of Truth gained, to know how to follow the master Christian. I am very grateful to our heavenly Father, to our Wayshower Christ Jesus, to our dear Leader, the lone woman who stood for divine Truth against the whole world, and to all who have helped to clear the way for me.
