[Universalist Leader.]
Respect for spiritual reality is a supreme demand at present. Insistence that the formulas of worship shall be interpreted in terms of righteousness and character is the true watchword of faith. God may be outside, or inside the formulas; let us study the facts and see where He is. And when we find Him, when we see men brought under His influence into communion with the highest, let us insist that the question of how it came about is secondary, incidental, relatively unimportant. It is because special claims and special pleadings have obscured from both inside and outside revealed religion the spiritual contents within or without, that we have the present anarchy of religion and the worldwide quarrel in the camp of the followers of the most High. The moment we get within sight of the divine truth that religion is life, and that the supreme test of all faiths is in the soul's free citizenship under God, that moment we have a norm or standard by which and around which to gather all of the spiritual forces at work in the soul of humanity into one great interpretation of human experience and into one great energy for reshaping the history of the human race.
