AMONG THE CHURCHES
In October, 1902, five friends met for the purpose of hearing something about Christian Science. In 1903, earnest seekers of Truth joined them, holding services every Sunday evening, and one of the friends opened her home for a monthly testimony meeting. Two years later the services were transferred to Belle Vue schools, and on April 16, 1907, First Church of Christ, Scientist, was organized with a membership of twenty-seven. In July of that year the church rented Cunliffe villa on a two-years lease; at the expiration of this (in 1909) Unity hall, Rawson square, was taken for a church and reading-room. In March of the present year, owing to increased interest in Christian Science and consequent growth of congregation, the church purchased Eldon house in Eldon place. The house stands detached on a piece of ground consisting of about twelve hundred and fifty-four square yards, and the intention is to use it at present for reading-room, Sunday school, and other offices necessary to a church. On the ground at the back a church to accommodate about four hundred people will be built. In time this building will be devoted to the Sunday school, and the church proper will be built upon the site of the present structure.
