THE LECTURES

William D. McCrackan, M.A., delivered an interesting lecture on Christian Science on Monday night [Nov. 21] in the Mechanics' Hall. Arthur E. Jennings of Darlington in introducing the lecturer said:—

St. Paul gained such a clear perception of spiritual things that he was able to declare with certainty that the Christ, Truth, would after that time appear only to those who were looking for Truth. Almost at the end of his marvelous career Paul said: "Unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation." And so today it was those who looked for the truth that found it, thereby emphasizing and maintaining the promise of the Master that the Comforter should come, and that it would lead them into all truth.

In order that humanity might hear a "true and just reply to public statements condemning Christian Science" (Church Manual, p. 93), The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, had provided a board of lectureship, of which Mr. McCrackan was a member. This year he was completing a memorable missionary tour of the world. During the last few weeks he bad come to this country from an extensive lecture tour among the Christian Science churches in South Africa. Prior to that he had lectured before large audiences in Canada, United States of America, Mexico, Hawaiian Islands, Australia, and China, so that he had practically encircled the globe and reached thousands with his new-old message of Truth. Mr. McCrackan brought this message to them, and he (the speaker) was sure that the people of Darlington, ever in the march of progress in industrial things, would give him a kindly welcome and receptive hearing in his presentation of Christian Science as a religion of progress in spiritual things.
