I desire to acknowledge the many blessings I have received...
I desire to acknowledge the many blessings I have received through Christian Science. Seven years ago I was taken ill with what was pronounced cerebral hemorrhage, and was confined to the bed for many weeks, with a doctor attending me every day. I lingered along until the autumn, when I had another and seemingly worse attack than before, also enlargement of the veins in my legs. I was in bed at this time for twelve weeks; then the doctor told my wife he could do no more for me, and that I could not live for many days longer. My wife and children then called in another doctor, who also told them that they must be prepared for the worst as I could not live many days.
My son then told me of Christian Science, as he had been healed of paralysis by it, and he wrote to the lady who had helped him to ask if she would help me. He also sent me a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," the reading of which I found a great help. After a little while I felt myself getting better, so that I was soon able to leave my bed. The practitioner came to Porlock and held a little service in my son's house, but it was all so strange to me that I could not see the light at first, but afterward this kind lady called at my house and told me that what Christian Science had done for others it could do for me. She read to me certain portions of Science and Health and explained them to me, and I began to see my error, for I found in reading Science and Health that diseases are not the truth of man's being and they should all be treated as error. (See page 425.) I was then suffering from dropsy, but it entirely left me; and, thank God, I have had no hemorrhage since.
My healing was slow, but it is sure. I find this passage from Science and Health very helpful to me: "When the illusion of sickness or sin tempts you, cling steadfastly to God and His idea" (P. 495). My heart is overflowing with thankfulness to Mrs. Eddy for giving us this book, Science and Health. I have proven that "divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need" (P. 494), and I would close this testimony with thanks to God for the blessings of Christian Science.
