When I came to Christian Science I was on the verge...
When I came to Christian Science I was on the verge of despair. I seemed to have left no material remedy untried, besides going to many watering-places—but all to no avail. I suffered with severe neuralgic pain, and in order to make life seem tolerable I resorted to all kinds of drugs, but after I had used each of them for a length of time, it lost its effect upon me, and I would always end by taking an opiate. I took this drug for two years, and then realized that I must quit this detrimental habit. After I had been treated in Christian Science for about four weeks, and on my return home one evening, without premeditation I destroyed what was left of the drug and never again have I taken it.
I used to walk in a rather uncertain fashion, but this has so improved that I can now take walks of an hour's duration without the feeling of exertion. Furthermore, I used to be very much depressed mentally, but this condition has entirely disappeared, and today I am a happy and contented man and live with the joyful trust that with God's help all errors which present themselves will be overcome. I also have found God, whom I never had known before. Through reading Der Herold der Christian Science I have overcome my dislike of the English, and am now taking lessons in order to become familiar with this language, besides studying diligently the text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, which affords me great joy.
For all these blessings I am filled with gratitude to God, also to our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, who through divine revelation was enabled to bring us this glorious teaching.
