Like a great many others I came to Christian Science...
Like a great many others I came to Christian Science through healing. I was suffering from what the doctors called nervous exhaustion. I had followed the occupation of nursing, and constant work with loss of sleep was supposed to be the cause of my trouble. The doctors with whom I had worked were very anxious to help me, but acknowledged there was little that they could do. They advised me to go to the seacoast; but I did not want to travel, so I decided to rest at home. Perfect quiet, no visitors, no letters, were the orders! This was my condition when Christian Science found me. A practitioner from the South, visiting a neighbor, came to my house one day, and seeing my trouble, spoke words of true comfort and encouragement and handed me a copy of Science and Health to read. Encouraged by her words, I took the book, and read. The chapter on Prayer interested me deeply, and I read it over and over again. In a few days I left my couch and took up my daily duties, and have performed them ever since. I have never had a doctor or taken any medicine since that time. The reading of that inspiring book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," by Mrs. Eddy, taught me how to pray, and through this prayer I was healed.
Since that time (over four years) I have been proving daily that God is an ever-present help in trouble.
Mrs. Alma B. Hawley, Fort Collins, Col.
