My attention has been called to a letter in a recent issue...
People's Register
My attention has been called to a letter in a recent issue in criticism of a tract entitled "Written by God." In this letter the statement is made that such literature as this tract can only be classed with Christian Science and various beliefs of which the writer of the letter disapproves.
In order that a false impression may not obtain among those of your readers who may have given attention to the letter in question, permit me to say that nothing could bear less resemblance to the teachings of Christian Science than the tract to which our friend objects. It is no less a mistake to refer to Christian Science in connection with "witchcraft." because Christian Science uncovers and destroys superstitious beliefs of all kinds and clearly teaches that there is no power but God. Christian Science differs also from the other forms of belief with which it has been indiscriminately classed by your correspondent, and this difference is vital because each of these beliefs involves more or less of human theory and personal opinion, whereas Christian Science makes its appeal wholly on the basis of individual demonstration.
No one is asked to accept Christian Science because someone else has accepted it, and a reasonable person should not be expected to condemn it because some one else mistakenly believes its literature should be consigned to the flames. "Try it, and see for yourself," is the condition on which Christian Science is offered, and the mere expression of somebody's opinion is no answer to such an offer. An unprejudiced perusal of its literature will convince any fairminded person that both its aim and its ends are wholly good.
