Every hour of every day I give thanks to God for the gift of Christian Science; for the pure thought of our Leader which brought it to us, and lastly that I was able to see and accept it. On the seventeenth of June, 1910, in getting off a street-car I failed to look with care for vehicles, and as I was about to step to the pavement I felt myself hurled with great force to the hard paved street. I knew instantly that I had been struck by an automobile. It was stopped in time not to pass over me, though the wheel pressed me closely, yet I seemed to know no fear. Men lifted the wheel, then helped me up, and as I stood there the car conductor was demanding my name, a near relative (not a Scientist) who had been on the car with me was filled with terror for my probable injuries, the people crowded around me looked frightened, and yet I was able to announce calmly that I was not hurt. The owner of the machine and my relative begged me to get in and be taken home, and on seeing the sorry plight of my dress skirt, I gladly accepted. All the way I gave thanks to God for His protecting care of me, the ninety-first Psalm being constantly in my thought.

On reaching home I preferred to say nothing of the experience, I being the only Scientist. My relative besought me to "keep quiet," but I took up my usual line of activity, and among other things entirely repaired the damaged dress. The only evidences of the fall were bruises and abrasions of my arm. That night was one of my nights to see to the material needs of an ill and aged father, and during the early night I quickly fell asleep after attending him. Later, when the body was rested, the mortal thought began to put before me the "might-have-beens," but through the aid of passages from our inspired text-book, Science and Health, I was able to shut them out. Truly may we say, "Great peace have they which love thy law, for nothing can offend them."
