Through a dear friend I heard of Christian Science about...

Through a dear friend I heard of Christian Science about fifteen years ago, but until three years ago I gave it no thought. My husband and I then became interested in it through a friend who brought us the Sentinel to read. We began this reading with rather desultory interest, this continuing for several months, when a very painful case of sciatica which had troubled me many weeks became more distressing each day, and forced me to seek help either in Christian Science or materia medica. I decided to turn to Christian Science, sought out a practitioner, and was healed instantaneously, as I was free from pain that night. For a few days there was a slight lameness in one of my ankles, but the disease was moving off, and at the end of the week it was gone and has never returned. That "Mind is the source of all movement and there is no inertia to retard or check its perpetual and harmonious action" (Science and Health, p. 283), had been clearly proven to me. The reading of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by our dear Leader brought a realization of the truth of her writings, and I was grateful for the Christ-cure which she has revived in this age.

At another time a distressing ailment was overcome, and about a year ago, since going through class, I was able to meet with the truth a sudden and severe attack of illness. The pain was very severe, and being alone when it manifested itself, my first thought was to telephone a practitioner for help, but I decided to trust Truth, and after dwelling upon the "scientific statement of being" and then Mrs. Eddy's interpretation of the last sentence of the Lord's Prayer (Science and Health, pp. 468, 17), I realized the power of God to overcome error, and in two hours I was free from pain. By morning there was no evidence of pain or weakness, and I resumed the ordinary home duties. Three times before coming into Christian Science I had suffered from this disease, each time needing a physician, and was ill a week, at the end of which time I had the appearance of one who had been through a serious illness Many times Truth has freed me from some inharmonious condition, and it is with grateful recognition of this that I send my testimony, hoping it will bring to some one else the desire to know the truth. Aside from the healing of physical ills, there has come a spiritual uplifting whereby daily problems are met.

More and more I see that Christian Science is the Christianity we have thought unattainable on this plane; but the Christ-spirit is ours for today, and as we strive for that Mind "which was also in Christ Jesus," we shall overcome all that is unlike God. I am indeed grateful to God for leading dear Mrs. Eddy in her unselfish search for and her demonstration of this truth.
