I became interested in Christian Science about six years...
I became interested in Christian Science about six years ago after being healed of a severe case of stomach trouble. Since that time I have relied entirely on its teachings, and have found it an efficient help in all times of discord. The demonstration of healing that I wish to give here is that of my husband's mother, who came to spend a few weeks with us, and while here tripped and fell, injuring the ankle bone severely. Physicians were called, the bone set, and a prediction made that on account of her age (she was seventy-three at that time), she would not be able to be about for three months or more.
When my husband asked me what we had better do. I told him that if she were my mother I should certainly place her under Christian Science treatment, and this he was willing to do and did do immediately. A practitioner was notified and treatment begun, though mother was not told of it until the next morning, since she knew nothing of Christian Science ; but she was pleased when she learned what was being done for her. She rested nicely the first night and day, with very little pain, and the second day she sat up, resting the foot and ankle on a chair. Each day she would sit up a little longer, until she sat up all of the afternoon without being in the least fatigued. At the end of three weeks, when I removed the bandages, the ankle and foot were still a little swollen, but she continued to improve each day until the healing was complete. After the third week she was going about without any help, and during the fifth week she went down the steps, walked out into the yard and back without any assistance whatever. In addition to the above healing, kidney and stomach trouble, also rheumatism of several years' standing, were overcome. Many times she would say, "How thankful I am to God, and to Mrs. Eddy, for this healing." At the end of seven weeks the work was complete. With the exception of a slight limp when walking, the foot and ankle were as perfect as before the accident.
Through this healing my husban became more interested in Christian Science, going over the Lesson-Sermon with me each day. A brother who came to take our mother home also became interested, and while here he had the privilege of attending a Christian Science lecture which very much impressed him. For all of these blessings, and for very many others, we are truly grateful to God, and also to dear Mrs. Eddy. — Alice Boettler, Florence, Col.
