With a heart full of gratitude I desire to give a testimony...
With a heart full of gratitude I desire to give a testimony of my healing in Christian Science, hoping that it may prove helpful to others. In September, 1900, I turned to Christian Science for help, as I had been suffering severely all summer with rheumatism. I had tried material remedies, but got worse instead of better, the pain being so intense as to be almost unbearable. The doctor told me there was nothing that would do me any good, as the disease had become chronic. He said that an operation might relieve the pain, but that it would leave me a cripple, a statement which to me was very discouraging.
At that time I had never met a Christian Scientist and knew nothing of the teaching, but as I had a neighbor who had been healed, and who advised me to try Christian Science, I decided to do so. I went to see a practitioner, and was so much benefited by the first treatment that I slept better that night, but it took me some time before I could let go of the wreck. I had a great fear of the disease, but I rejoice to say that I was not only healed of it, but also of a number of other ailments, one of which was chronic. Our family doctor told me that the sciatic trouble would return; but it has not, and it is now over eight years since I was healed of it.
In May, 1906, I was taken with chills and fever and kept getting worse, so that I could not go to a practitioner, but I wrote for absent treatment. About the time my letter reached her all fear left me, and I felt peaceful and harmonious. I at once began to get better, and in twenty-four hours I was perfectly well, going about my work and eating with a normal appetite. This seemed wonderful to me. I do not live near any Christian Scientists, and have never had the privilege of attending a Christian Science service, but I have been able to overcome many minor ailments in a few hours by the knowledge I have gained through the reading of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. My desire is to show my gratitude by a life of meekness and devotion to God, good.—Mrs. Sarah Foote, Antwerp, O.
