The foundation of Christian Science is the one infinite...

Pomona (Cal.) Progress

The foundation of Christian Science is the one infinite, eternal God, divine Mind, the sole cause, creator, and power in the universe. Christian Science declares that this one infinite Being is good, and includes nothing unlike Himself. It therefore declares and proves evil in all of its phases, subtle, hidden, or otherwise, to be null and void—as something without basis, foundation, or cause, and to be dealt with as Jesus directed when he defined devil, evil, as "a lie." Mortals have been deceived by this serpent evil, alias animal magnetism, and not until the advent of Christian Science were scientific steps toward dominion over all error pointed out.

The term animal magnetism is not the result of the coming of Christian Science, but has come to the surface since its discovery that even hidden iniquity may be destroyed. Mrs. Eddy never taught that animal magnetism has power. She long ago discovered that others did so believe and even sought to exercise it ignorantly and maliciously. She has devoted a chapter in her book, Science and Health, to an expose' of this whole question. Her entire life-work and all she has ever written breathes the spirit and power of good to overcome evil, even as light dispels darkness, and in the place thereof "all is light."

Going to the "root of Christian Science" does not lead one to Mrs. Eddy, but to God. She is but its Discoverer. Through her own spiritual clear-sightedness she gained a nearer vision of divine Love, and the fruitage of that revelation has redeemed thousands of men and women from all phases of evil and disease, and lifted them to a purer and holier contemplation of God and His Christ. The nearer one gets to the "root" of Christian Science the nearer he gets to God and away from human personality.
