I do not pray, O God, to Thee...

I do not pray, O God, to Thee
To lift me high;
I do not ask that there may be
No troubles I
Must face in climbing up; I pray
For no man's help along the way.

But give me strength, O God, and heart
To try and try;
I do not crave an easier part,
I only sigh
For strength to stand among the few
Who bravely struggle and subdue.
