For years I had suffered with a chronic disorder of the stomach and bowels. I used all kinds of remedies, but none had a lasting effect: the trouble rather grew worse. Moreover, I was afflicted almost constantly with a skin disease on the face, which was very painful and disfiguring. Through sad experiences I had become embittered, and as the physical ills kept growing worse, my prospects for the future became still darker.
Some time ago a sister, who had been healed through Christian Science of a seemingly incurable disease of several years' standing, had advised me to seek help in Christian Science. I, however, believed that this meant that I must renounce all the pleasures in life, and I was not willing to do this, as I always hoped to be happy again. My sister gradually made plain to me that Christian Science not only leaves us all the pure joys, but that it enhances them, and that it only takes away from us the false pleasures and all that makes life heavy to bear. I then wrote to the practitioner who had helped my sister, and asked her to give me treatment, and very soon I became happier; thoughts altogether different entered into my mind, and the eruption, of which I was having a severe attack, disappeared immediately. The other ailment, too, began to improve, and after a little over five weeks I felt so well that I needed no further help.
I have found complete healing, and am happy that Christian Science has come into my life, for now I am no more without God, and without hope and faith in the world. I have also applied the truth for myself with success; for instance, when I scalded myself so badly that I suffered great pain and could not open the right eye at all, I declared the truth, with the result that the pain lessened in a short while, and neither blisters nor scars appeared. That I am happy now, and cheerful, and look toward the future with trust in God, I owe entirely to Christian Science. I thank our heavenly Father that we have in Mrs. Eddy a Leader who teaches us how to understand and to do His will.
