We came into Christian Science for the healing of our...
We came into Christian Science for the healing of our son. We were away from home and were driven by an approaching storm into a home where a Christian Scientist lived. She and her little boy had been healed in Christian Science, and she came at our solicitation to our home and stayed three weeks. I learned from her that it was the religion for which I had been looking. I had often thought how Christ's disciples healed the sick, and asked, Are we not his disciples? I thought something was wrong, but I did not know what. Now, through the study of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, I have learned the true way.
My son had an attack of fever, and after he was able to be about he did not gain as he should. The doctor and nurse did all they could to restore his health with material remedies, but to no lasting avail, and after awhile we sent him to a hospital. He seemed better for a short time only, and then we tried electricity, but nothing did any good. He was greatly wasted and would not eat. There being no Christian Science practitioner living near, I took him to Richmond, Ind. We were there one week and then returned home, and after this whenever from time to time I wrote of his condition, there would be marked improvement. The kidney and bowel disorders disappeared at once, and just before the complete healing took place he was examined by a physician, who said he was normal except there might be some little disturbance of the bowels; but that it was not safe to have him at home, and that we should take him to a hospital. They were making preparation to take him, when I telephoned to the Christian Science practitioner. He began to improve, and I never saw any one gain so fast. He is now a large, robust, healthy man, and works in the hospital. Our hearts go out in gratitude for the healing of one we all loved. I would add that very many of those who saw our son remarked that they never thought he would get well.
I will also tell of my own healing. I had been suffering for a week with a severe attack of stomach trouble, and the morning I was to start with my son for Richmond, I thought I could not go; but the dear Scientist who was at our house helped me, and I became easier and started. I thought when I got down there I would also ask for Christian Science treatment for myself, as I had had this difficulty for years. Sometimes it was so severe that I would eat almost nothing for a week. I took one treatment, and the practitioner said, "Now you must eat." I thought she did not know what she was talking about, but I was obedient, and what I ate did not hurt me and I have never had any return of the disease. This occurred over two years ago, and I have had many other demonstrations of God's power over mortal ills.
