I wish to express my deep obligations to divine Truth and Love, and my thanks and gratitude for the many helpful articles in our periodicals during the past year. Many times the reading of these good thoughts has given me renewed courage, has lifted me above the clouds of sense, and shown me again how to "rise in the strength of Spirit to resist all that is unlike good" (Science and Health, p. 393).

In 1897, after four years of suffering, in which I received no help or encouragement from materia medica, material remedies, or hygiene, I heard of a case, very similar to my own, which was healed in one treatment by Christian Science. For several years I had been intensely prejudiced against what I thought was Christian Science, and would not listen to any one who talked it. I was very careful not to touch Science and Health, which lay on the table and was constantly read by the family, but after living in the home of these dear people eighteen months, I had been compelled to recognize that they were living their religion in their daily life, and that they had a religion which seemed to satisfy and to be very practical. With this conviction my prejudice had become sufficiently softened to enable me in an hour of extremity to go to a practitioner and ask for treatment. Within a very short time I was perfectly healed of many ailments, from some of which I had been told I would never be free. With the third treatment I was enabled to take off my glasses, and have never used them since.

With this healing there came a great revelation of Truth, which seemed to lift me above the mortal realm of existence for many months; but, as we all find, I had to come down to the valley and begin my journey upward by overcoming the mortal self; and, as Paul says, I have found it a warfare, "not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." Christian Science has been my only weapon of defense in this warfare, and it has ever been sufficient for the need.
