Something over twenty years ago, I became interested...
Something over twenty years ago, I became interested in Christian Science. It came to me suddenly, after my wife had been healed some ten days before. She did not tell me when she was taking the treatment, thinking it might possibly prove a failure, as everything tried in the past twelve years had done; so I was very much surprised when she said that she was perfectly well, and that she had been healed by Christian Science. This was the first that I had ever heard of the subject. I did not then realize that I needed Christian Science, but as time went on, and as I read and reread Science and Health and other works by Mrs. Eddy, I found that I did need this truth. I now fully realize that I have received very many benefits, and that I shall continue to do so as long as I prove faithful to this teaching.
In reviewing the past I find that severe rheumatic trouble, fever, etc., also eye trouble, the use of tobacco and intoxicating liquors,—these have all dropped away, one after the other. Truth has softened my temper, improved my language, and made me a better man, and for all these blessings I am truly grateful to God, and to our beloved Leader, who is doing so much for me and for all mankind. May heaven's blessings rest upon her! I am also thankful for the Sentinel and Journal, and look forward eagerly to their appearing. Especially do I look for a line from our Leader and adviser. I also enjoy the Quarterly, together with the Bible and Science and Health. Jesus said, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." Mrs. Eddy says (Science and Health, p. 222), "Truth regenerates this fleshly mind and feeds thought with the bread of Life." My mother was a devout church-member, and I was an attendant at church and Sunday School, but in after years I only read the Bible from a sense of duty; now I love it.
