While at a southern resort, last year, we were surrounded...

While at a southern resort, last year, we were surrounded by people whose views on the subject of health, and other things were very different from those of Christian Scientists. One night about eleven o'clock I awoke to find myself very ill, according to the testimony of the senses. I tried to overcome the difficulty myself, but failing to do so I called my husband, who is also a student of Christian Science, and we declared the truth until 5:30 a.m., when I fell asleep. On awaking I was trying to think of some excuse to offer for not appearing at the breakfast-table, but just then my husband asked me to get ready to go to the dining-room, and I immediately knew that he was certain I could do it, with God's help, or he would not have asked me. I obeyed with some difficulty, but when we entered the dining-room I was able to appear perfectly comfortable, and no one would have imagined what a struggle I had had all night. We had to remain downstairs for an hour, to consult about some business matters, and I overheard one guest remark to another, "I wonder how Mrs.—is. The doctor in attendance did not expect to bring her through the night, as the air last night was the kind he dreaded; and two other guests are afflicted." The disorder was the same as that from which I had suffered, and my thankfulness may be imagined that, instead of being a thousand miles from my home physician, we had our God, the "great Physician," right with us. I realized as never before how our heavenly Father covers us with His wings, protecting us from the evil beliefs of mortal mind.

We have been in Christian Science over twenty years, and have never doubted its ability to cope with any of the ills that flesh is heir to. We have proven it a practical Science to rely upon all day long and every day of the week. Words fail to express my love and gratitude to our dear Leader, but this mite may help to swell the grand strain which is floating heavenward. All the good we have and are able to do we owe to this great truth, and Mrs. Eddy has shown us, by her untiring and selfless love, how to grow better each day.
