I suffered from pains in the stomach for many years. For a long time I was not able to eat certain kinds of food, and tried many things to get relief. During the treatment which I underwent last, I became so miserable that I did not know what to do, especially in consideration of the strenuous work in which I was engaged. I had often heard through a relative of the help that sick people receive through Christian Science, but I had no confidence in the healing work, being strictly religious according to the old views.

On Jan. 23, 1909, however, I was so distressed that I could not even eat bread. I then decided that this condition could not continue, and called upon a Christian Science practitioner. I told her all my troubles, and also my doubts. Even then I could not well grasp what I was told, but as I was suffering severe pain I asked for treatment. On the following day we had guests at dinner, and I ate of everything just like the others. They saw with surprise that I could eat again of all the dishes, and asked me how I felt. I was glad to tell them that I was very well. It seemed a miracle to myself, and had I heard of such a healing through others, I would not have believed it. When, a few days later, the physician who had attended my case called, and I was able to tell her that I was quite well, she was surprised and incredulous.

Two weeks later I had an attack of throat trouble, with high fever, as I had had it oftentimes before. The weather was stormy, and I felt so weak that I did not venture to go out, but the thought that I, who had so many duties to perform, should perhaps be ill for a long while, induced me to go again to the Christian Science practitioner. She kindly gave me treatment, and when I left her the pressure in the head and the pain in the throat had disappeared, and I felt quite well again. I felt as if a miracle had been performed, and cannot readily express in words the gratitude which I felt. I want to offer once more my sincere and heartfelt thanks to God, that I have been helped to discern the truth. I am thankful for the quick help which I have received, and that I have found in Christian Science the religion of Christ, the truth about God.
