I feel that the time has come to make a public acknowledgment...
I feel that the time has come to make a public acknowledgment of what Christian Science has done for me. In the summer of 1905 I had a very severe illness, and the doctors said that an operation was necessary to save my life. My recovery from this was very slow, and I was taken to a sanitarium, where I remained for more than five months. During that time I had another severe attack of stomach trouble. The doctors then advised my going away, as they could do nothing more, so I was taken to the station in a wheel-chair, and carried into the train. When I reached my destination I sent for a physician of another school, thinking that I would surely recover my health, but I only improved for a time, and then the old trouble returned, until I was in bed again for eight weeks.
At that time a friend recommended Christian Science, so a practitioner was sent for. After the first treatment I ate food which I had not dared to take for months, and after the second visit, two days later, I got up and walked about the room. The next day I asked the nurse to dress me; then I walked out into the other room, unaided, and in a few days went to two meals daily. In two weeks I was going up and down stairs as often as I wished. All this was done without the truss which I had worn for more than twenty-five years, and I have never used it since. My quick recovery was a marvel to all my friends, who expected me to an invalid the rest of my life.
I am truly thankful to our heavenly Father, who is Life, and to Mrs. Eddy, who has made the truth so plain, for I have never felt such peace, comfort, and joy as since I have known of Christian Science. Medicine has been entirely discarded since Aug. 20, 1906, for I find Truth to be an ever-present help in time of need.
