FEAR NOT

"Fear not, little flock," said the Master, "for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom." Recently a friend of mine was telling me of the growth and development of a Christian Science church in the West in which I have always been intensely interested, as it had its small beginning one Sunday afternoon in my home. Now it has its own edifice without a penny of debt. I was told that a few months ago it became necessary to elect new Readers, and the only ones who seemed to be available were a certain gentleman and his wife. The wife was a shy, shrinking, timid woman, who had never done anything of a public nature; indeed, she had never even testified at a Wednesday evening meeting. When she found that she was elected to the office of Second Reader she was seemingly overwhelmed with fear, feeling that she could not fill the position acceptably. However, when Sunday came, she made her demonstration, rose to the occasion, and proved so satisfactory, not only to the congregation, but to herself, that when Wednesday evening rolled around, she rose to her feet and had the courage to give a stirring testimony; and since then has testified frequently. It has been truly said, —

Our doubts are traitors,
And make us lose the good we oft might win
By fearing to attempt.
