When Christian Science comes into one's life, the community has gained a better man, a better father, and a better citizen, and one who is daily striving to practise the Golden Rule and is seeking his own in another's good. Christian Scientists are preeminent in all sanitary measures, and quarantine all contagious diseases, rigidly obeying the law. They do not advocate abolition of jails or police protection, or the withdrawal of restrictions of evil and vice. Christian Science is convincing mankind that health and prosperity depend upon character, right thinking and right acting, and it is self-evident that a community is fortunate indeed that possesses citizens imbued with this idea. Christian Science is the panacea for all mortal discord, because it begins with the individual and is redeeming him from the bondage of sin, sickness, and death. It is hastening the day when hospitals, jails, and charitable institutions, which now seem necessary, will no longer be needed, "for the former things are passed away."

The gentleman also criticises Christian Science because it has not produced famous evangelists, but this condition is really a tribute to the impersonal method of Christian Science, which encourages the individual to search the Scriptures and work out his own salvation. Spiritual understanding, which enables one to follow the example of the Master in healing the sick and reforming the sinner, is the one important thing.
