About July, 1901, I attended, seemingly by chance, a Christian Science Wednesday evening meeting, as a courtesy to an aunt upon whom I had called to pay my respects. I knew nothing of Christian Science and cared nothing about it. During my stay in that city (I was away from home) I attended, aimlessly, several other meetings, possibly three. Subsequently, and until November, 1903, I attended no services and did not read the literature or discuss Christian Science. At intervals during this period of twenty-eight months the happiness, harmony, and peace with which the very air seemed charged at that first Wednesday meeting so filled my consciousness that I could no longer say no to God's voice, and in the latter part of 1903 I began to attend the services, read the literature, and study the Lesson-Sermons regularly. The first proof of the healing power of Truth, as taught in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, was shown to me in May, 1904, when I was healed of distressing headaches which had seemingly mastered me for twenty-five years. I had been annoyed by catarrhal trouble for ten years, and it had been growing worse year by year. After eighteen months' study of our Leader's message to this age, I awoke one day to the fact that I had lost this ailment. My sight had become impaired, and I was reluctantly making ready to trust the mending of it to an oculist, but Christian Science pointed out a better way, and my eyesight has been improved by its study.
I feel assured that nothing less than Truth, God, could so broaden and spiritualize men and women, as is evidenced by the works of honest students of Christian Science, Had our revered Leader been one whit less pure and courageous she could not have received and given to others the revelation of Truth that has come to this age through Christian Science. I send this with gratitude for the privilege of touching the hem of Christ's garment, and with a prayer for humility.
