Christian Science has done so much for me during the...
Christian Science has done so much for me during the six years that I have been trying to make it my rule of conduct, that I am always glad of an opportunity to express my gratitude. I came to Christian Science originally for physical healing, but I was not long in discovering that my physical troubles were only a small part of the inharmonies that could be cast out by the truth. For many years I had doubted even the existence of a God, and had thought that every man's hand was against me, but I soon found such overwhelming evidence of the efficacy and power of divine Love, that my thought about my fellow-men was changed, and I was led to exclaim fervently, as did the heavenly host at the birth of the Messiah: "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men." It was indeed the coming of the Christ to my consciousness. During the past six years I have had occasion to test Christian Science in many ways, and have always found it an efficacious and ever-present help in time of trouble, whether the trouble was physical or mental. Another reason why I am grateful is that through the little understanding I have gained, I have been able to help others as well as myself. For a long time after I began demonstrating Christian Science for myself, I was loth to attempt the treatment of those outside my own family, fearing that I might not be able to afford the relief expected, but when I fully realized that God is the only healer; that there are no failures with God; and that "God will heal the sick through man, whenever man is governed by God" (Science and Health, p. 495), then this fear was destroyed, and the results corresponded with the realization of the truth gained from the study of our text-book.
