The spiritual light which I have received through the...
The spiritual light which I have received through the continued and faithful study of the wonderful book, "Science and Health with Key of the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, enabled me, a few months ago, to free my only son, seventeen years old, from a severe and complicated disease. The false belief that he had inherited consumption, had always been around the boy, and fear was held by near and distant relatives. A tendency to influenza and articular rheumatism made common cause with the inherited burden, which made its appearance in severe attacks. But God who is Love and Truth was with us day and night; He taught me, led me, strengthened and enlightened me. Confidingly I looked through the clouds of anxiety and error into the realm of the invisible, the real, and I heard the silent song of the angels: "God's thoughts passing to man; spiritual intuitions, pure and perfect; . . . counteracting all evil, sensuality, and mortality" (Science and Health, p. 581), bearing testimony of the ever-near divine Love. These came to my assistance and one trouble after another was conquered.
The disease appeared a short time before Christmas, and we usually visited my parents in the country at that time. My son has himself some spiritual understanding; and he ventured to undertake the journey with me. When we reached the grandparents, they were frightened at his appearance; and when we rejected all material help, the dear ones present were alarmed and thought this dangerous and even wrong. Only my two sisters and the governess, who are Scientists, supported us with helpful thoughts. After four days' treatment the stiffness in his limbs disappeared. I declared the truth day and night. Then the fever and a boil on his neck disappeared, the cough and expectoration also ceased, and soon after a good healthy appetite appeared. We returned to Dresden, and on January 8 my son went back to school. January 31 he danced at a school festival from eight in the evening until after midnight. He was well and happy. Every trace of the disease had disappeared.
My heart overflows with gratitude to divine Love, and to dear Mrs. Eddy, who has brought us the understanding of the Christ-teaching, so that we all may avail ourselves of it as an effective help. Nothing can hinder me now from joining the Church of Christ, Scientist, and becoming a true member of the great body that bears witness to truth.
