The Lectures
Bicknell Young of Chicago delivered a lecture at the Academy of Music, yesterday afternoon [Jan. 28], on the subject of Christian Science. The speaker was introduced by Hon. James G. Riddick, Mayor of Norfolk and a prominent practising allopathic physician. Dr. Riddick opened his remarks by saying that he had been criticised for accepting the invitation to introduce a Christian Science lecturer, but that he did not consider himself a possessor of universal knowledge, and, while honoring his own profession, if there is a Principle by which the suffering of mankind can have additional alleviation he is willing to give it a hearing; that he was not sufficiently informed as to the teachings of Christian Science to pass upon its merits, and he was willing on this occasion, as on all others, to serve the people of Norfolk, — The Public Ledger.
Increasing interest in the study of religion under the leadership of Mrs. Eddy was shown last night [Feb. 6] when Mrs. Sue Harper Mims of Atlanta, Georgia, addressed a very large audience of thoughtful persons at the Yosemite Theatre on the Principle and the practical workings of Christian Science. The lecturer was introduced by Attorney J.A. Plummer, who said in part, —
