The foundation upon which Christian Science has...
The New York Sun
The foundation upon which Christian Science has its firm basis is God, and the premise of all the conclusions reached in Christian Science is that God is Spirit, All in all; that God made man in His image and likeness; indeed, that God made all that was made, "and, behold, it was very good." In the matter of healing, the basic premise of Christian Science is that Spirit, God, is the healing power. In view of the fact that Christian Science can prove that it has healed all manner of sickness and sin, including many forms of disease pronounced incurable by regular physicians, it is reasonable to conclude that the deductions reached in Christian Science through logical adherence to its premise are correct, since they govern those who study and apply this Science.
As God does not create disease and sin, they must have only a fabulous existence, God having made all that was made. So long as disease and sin are condoned and not overcome, they must be grappled with until destroyed by "the truth," which the Galilean Wayshower said "shall make you free." We all concede that mathematics is flawless, perfect in every instance, notwithstanding the many mistakes made by those who attempt to apply its basic law. This is equally true of God and His creation, and it is upon this ground that it is said in Christian Science that there is in reality no disease; but it is even more fully recognized among Christian Scientists than by others, that it is necessary to uncover and overcome the false and material beliefs which give rise to the inharmonious conditions. To say, as does our critic, that Christian Science is founded on the denial of disease, is to substitute an effect for the cause, and it amounts to a perversion of the teaching of Christian Science.
