For over a year I have been urged by an inward feeling...
For over a year I have been urged by an inward feeling to write and acknowledge the benefits received since coming into the Science, over ten years ago. Last winter I had a good demonstration over the fear of contagion, through the realization of the Divine protection and the unreality of contagion. My children were daily with others who had a supposedly contagious disease, and did not take it. I began the study of Christian Science by reading some testimonies which were published in the Kansas City Times. They were wonderful to me and gave me great hope. When I finished the reading, I said, "I am going to have that book, Science and Health, but where can I get it?" I then learned that neighbors who lived two miles from us were Christian Science people, and the good lady loaned me her copy of Science and Health for a few days. Glancing from page to page, trying to take it all in at once, an ailment was destroyed. I had the book only a few days when the owner sent for it, but she loaned me some Journals, which I read as eagerly as I had the book.
During the following summer many ailments disappeared. Though I was not considered sickly, I had a number of troubles, all of which disappeared and I found myself light-hearted and happy. During the few years I have been studying the Science other ailments have been met and mastered in the family, for with six children there are many troubles to be overcome.
When I was not able to overcome the fear of sickness I would send to a practitioner and she would help us. This blessed truth has given me a peace and contentment, and a faithful trust in God that I find I could not live without. When one is taken out of the bondage of sickness, selfishness, sin, and fear, and shown how to be healthful, happy, and helpful, how can we keep from loving and honoring the one who has shown us the way. I am grateful to Mrs. Eddy for her life-labor, and try to do all that I understand to be right. I find that this truth is very easily taught to children, because of their earnestness and purity. I have attended only one Christian Science service and one Wednesday evening meeting, but I have the Lesson-Sermon, for which I am very thankful, also the Journal and Sentinel and our Leader's books, which take the place of personal friends. Several of our relatives have accepted Christian Science. My desire is to hold steadfast to that which is good, and to grow in grace and wisdom.
