I had been ill for six years, although I had the best physician available, who did all he could but without helping me. At last he said to me that if an operation were performed I might perhaps get better. I went sadly home, because he could give me no assurance of cure. I grew worse and was in bed all winter. When a physician came from Germany, my husband said that we would try him. He made an examination and said that I could not be freed from the disease, but he gave me medicine and salve, which did not help me at all. After this I wrote to my sister in Sheboygan, telling her how ill I was, and that there seemed to be no help for me. She answered that there were many people in that town who had been healed through prayer to God, and that her own son was one of them. When we heard of the healing of her son, we decided to try it; and my husband said, "Prayer cannot harm you even if it does not help you." We wrote for the address of a practitioner. I was then suffering great agony and was often wishing for death that I might be at rest. My sister sent us the address and said that I should read the 91st Psalm. I myself wrote to the practitioner, and when her answer came it was full of hope, and I wept for joy that I would now get well. I called my husband to my bedside and told him that I felt so well I would try and get up. It was thought that I would not be able to walk, on account of the pain, but to my great joy the pain had disappeared. From that time on I improved daily, and to-day I am well and free from the bondage of disease. My desire to understand Christian Science was very great, and the Scientist wrote me to read my Bible and buy a copy of Science and Health, and thereby I would learn how Christian Science heals the sick. I got the book, but did not at first understand a word, as I could not read English. Later on I learned to read, one word after another, and the more I tried the more help I found. I continued my study every day and have learned that God is almighty and ever-present, and that we should place our full confidence in Him. I have had many fine demonstrations and would like to speak of one of them. One day my husband and I were both of us almost overcome within an hour. It seemed as if we had been poisoned, and that our end had come, but I sat down at the table and opened Science and Health at page 208. Soon we became more calm; my husband went to bed, but I worked on until about four o'clock, when I, too, fell asleep, and awoke with the sun shining on my face. We recognized that God had healed us. Through this and many greater demonstrations have we proven the power of God and His love for man.

We thank God, who in His wonderful wisdom has given us Mrs. Eddy, through whom there has come this wondrous Christ-truth which has healed thousands and will heal many more. I thank God for Christian Science.
