Several years ago, when I first caught a glimpse of Christian Science, it found me a hopeless invalid, in a new western country, with an infant boy and no particular means, our little store having previously been exhausted in a vain endeavor to get relief for both myself and child through the medical profession. To mortal sense I was suffering from a complication of diseases; with a general breakdown. Worst of all, I had lost hope,—despair had settled upon me,—and I prayed for death to relieve me and end it all. In this state of mind and body my husband asked me if I would try Christian Science, as he had read some lectures on that subject, when younger, and had heard of some cases of healing, but had never investigated the subject thoroughly. I replied that I was ready to do anything that possibly might free me from continual suffering and sorrow. I shall never forget the next evening, when he brought home a large bundle of Journals and laid them on the table before me. I began reading at once, and continued to read, for several days, until I had finished every one. Shortly after this, I read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and was not only healed, but experienced a great spiritual uplift which through all these years has never left me. Although at first my footsteps seemed faltering, and at times I have been sorely tempted and tried, yet the little understanding I have gained of Christian Science has at all times and under all conditions truly been my "shield and buckler." I have also had many recent helpful experiences and demonstrations of physical healing. Although I have not the privilege of attending Christian Science services here, I love to read the periodicals and study the Lessons, and in the daily perusal of our dear Leader's works my heart goes out in love and reverence to her who has labored so faithfully and unselfishly to point out to us the way to health and happiness.
Mrs. Cora A. Mahuran, Summerfield, Kan.
