I wish to acknowledge the many benefits received through...
I wish to acknowledge the many benefits received through Christian Science. One day I went into a dark closet and injured my eye severely by coming against a nail. Finding that I could not see with the eye, and that I was unable to realize the truth clearly for myself. I telephoned a Christian Science practitioner to help me. Within a few hours I could see somewhat, and at the close of the week the vision was clear. I have since become a member of The Mother Church, and understand and appreciate the Bible. Science and Health, and our Leader more and more each day.—Emma Kinney, Hyde Park, Cincinnati, O.
I wish to make known to others the many benefits which my family and myself have received from Christian Science. We lived in Wyoming for a number of years, and in 1899 my wife and three children returned to Ohio for a year, as a doctor had told us that our little girl should be taken to a lower altitude on account of ill health. A doctor in Ohio then said she could not live in that climate, but should be taken to a drier one. My wife then told him that she had just come from a dry climate, and he said he could do nothing for her. At this time Christian Science was mentioned by relatives, and a few treatments convinced my wife she had found what she had always wanted. The little girl was soon in good health, and a few attacks which came on later were overcome through my wife's understanding of Science, and some absent treatment.
A few weeks before their return to Wyoming, our three other children and two children where they were staying were taken with an eruptive fever, but with a few Christian Science treatments by a practitioner in Ohio the disease was soon overcome, not even scars remaining. While my wife was away with the little girl, she sent me a Sentinel and a letter with a few words of the truth in it. I threw away the material remedies which I had been using for several years, and was healed of bowel trouble. I took medicine only once after this, and it was before I had enough understanding to demonstrate the truth. A very severe ailment that often prevented me from working is now a thing of the past. I am a railroad clerk, and have worked twelve hours a day for fifteen years. Before I understood Science, I had begun to give way to exhaustion and failing eyesight. Now, without taking any vacation, and with hard, steady work, my sight has improved, I have gained health and strength, and have more energy and am more hopeful than I was fifteen years ago. I also work evenings at drawing which requires good sight. This I would not have attempted before reading Science and Health. My hearing is also greatly improved and getting better.
Two years ago my wife had an abnormal growth on her right shoulder which made her entire right side useless, besides being extremely painful. This was overcome by a few treatments. When she was having a severe struggle, she asked me to read to her from our text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, which I did, and she was soon relieved. In a few days she was doing her housework. Many other demonstrations of Truth's power could be told, but best of all is the overwhelming desire I have acquired for a life of honesty and purity, and to be fit to show my gratitude in demonstrating the truth for other needy ones.
