The Lectures

Mr. Bicknell Young lectured on Christian Science in the Lecture Hall of the Assembly Rooms, November 21. He was introduced by the Hon. John Ashburnham, who said in part,—

I am very glad to see that Hull is no exception to the general rule and that a notice of a lecture on Christian Science suffices to fill the hall with a large and representative audience. This fact is the more remarkable when we remember that a very short time ago the very name of Christian Science was hardly known in this country. Its adherents were few, and the mildest terms employed by its opponents were those of derision. Now all this is changed. Christian Science churches are being organized all over the country. While other denominations complain of small congregations, we have to enlarge our churches, and both pulpit and press when they mention Christian Science certainly no longer do so in terms of derision. The reason of this great change in public opinion is not difficult to find. Jesus said the "tree is known by his fruits." The saving and healing power of Christian Science can no longer be denied. The voice of thousands and tens of thousands of those who have been delivered from the bondage of sin and sickness is being heard, and men and women are asking to hear something of what has produced these marvelous results.—Correspondence.
