It is with a deep feeling of gratitude to our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy, that I wish to acknowledge what Christian Science has done for me. Words but feebly express all the thankfulness I feel for the blessing that came to me in the awakening from the dream of the mortal and finite sense of being, through the call of Truth. I was led to investigate Christian Science in the year of the World's Fair in Chicago. I was persuaded by a friend to take Christian Science treatment for a very obstinate cough that had troubled me for six weeks, following a bronchial cold that had threatened to be pneumonia. Everything had been done that materia medica could advise, including oxygen treatment every other day, but without the desired result. In the early spring the physician had told me that when summer came, the cough would be better, stating that the weather was too unsettled for me to expect to get better, unless I would stay indoors or go to a warmer climate. This ailment was completely overcome by Christian Science treatment, in little more than two weeks' time, and I went out and in as I pleased in all kinds of weather.
I was greatly rejoiced, and with the coming of this truth into my life, the tendency to take cold easily was overcome, and no longer was I subject to the severe colds from which I had formerly suffered.
I have learned that Truth is an ever-present help in times of trouble, and also in times of tranquillity, for I find that only as we rise above the perplexities and worries of corporeal sense, can we keep harmonious. It is our obedience to the demands of Principle that tests our love and shows our gratitude.—Maude C. Smith, Worcester, Mass.
