Three years ago I read a lecture on Christian Science in order that I might show the fallacy of it to my wife, who seemed interested in the subject. To my great surprise I found it in accord with my best thought. Science and Health was loaned me by the same kind Scientist to whom the copy of the lecture belonged, and I started reading it with the determination to be just, although I felt that each succeeding page must reveal its sophistry. Before reading ten pages its logic impressed me so that I experimented by laying aside spectacles used eight years for chronic astigmatism, and have never used them since nor felt their need. Although mortal sense had loudly asserted that the trouble with my eyes was insurmountable, that I might go blind, would make a laughing-stock of myself, etc., no sooner had the uselessness of my glasses been demonstrated, than it half convinced me that my eyes had been cured before the glasses were laid aside.
Casting about for a more convincing proof, I felt that if cured of the desire to smoke, which I had acquired eighteen years before and to which I had been a slave for at least ten years, there could be no discounting that. What will-power had repeatedly failed to overcome was annihilated completely and almost instantly. Medicine, which for many years I had used quite regularly, has never since been used, nor desired. Strictly speaking, I am not a Scientist, but with a slight understanding of divine Love gained through Christian Science, have come such great and manifold blessings that I would be worse than ungrateful not to make some acknowledgment.
Among other manifestations of this power has been the recent disappearance of a hernia of nearly twenty-five years' standing, pronounced incurable by an able surgeon, yet I seem to be still in the gray dawn of that light which is the Life of men. It appears egotistical to dwell upon my own case, but these are facts that are impossible of contradiction, and to me remarkable.—F. B. C., Philadelphia, Pa.
