"He sent His word, and healed them." "He spake, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast." "He is the Rock; his work is perfect."
Oftentimes the questions are asked of the healing by Christian Science, "Must one have faith in it to be healed?" "Is the healing permanent?" "Can chronic diseases be healed?" And it is with a heart overflowing with love and gratitude to God, to our beloved Leader, and to the one who so clearly and lovingly brought to my consciousness the all-power of God that I would bear witness to the "might and permanence of Truth" (Science and Health, p. 215).
After ten years of suffering, having broken down in health at the very beginning of college life, with every ambition and hope shattered because of ill health; after experimenting with various remedies, change of climate, specialists. I at last went to a hospital for three months on the promise that at the end of that time I would undoubtedly be able to resume light work. I then returned to my home, and within one week was in worse condition than ever before, the new physician telling me that with the best of care, electric baths, medical baths, and absolute rest from care and worry, I might be able to leave my bed in a year from that time. In this hour of darkness and desperation a friend asked me. "Won't you now try Christian Science?" I said to her in the bitterness of my soul, "Yes, Christian Science, or anything else, and the quicker it kills, the better," for my thought was full of ignorant prejudice toward the very words. I knew nothing whatever either of its teaching or practice, but supposed it was all that superstition and ignorance had said. I mention this to show that my initial question may be answered in the negative, for who "can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest Thou?"
