A Plea for Fair Judgment
Northern Christian Advocate
To the Editor Northern Christian Advocate.
Dear Sir:—My attention has just been called to an editorial in your issue of February 11, in which you class Mrs. Eddy under the head of "Successful Pretenders," and her followers as "novelty-loving people" who "cannot be induced to put their faith into sound Christian doctrine," and as being "fanatical followers" who "hand over all the property that they possess, and then leave honest debts unpaid."
In another editorial in the same issue you quote and approve a line from Shakespeare, saying that it is "Charity, gently to hear, kindly to judge." I am therefore convinced that you will gladly let your readers hear and judge for themselves.
