The Message of the East Wind
OH,
east wind blowing from the sea,
My heart a question hath for thee!
What message dost thou bring to me,
Sad east wind blowing from the sea?
I bring the message of the rain.
The silver fingers of the rain
Make music on your window-pane,
'Tis the sweet message of the rain.
My message is, "Dear heart rejoice,"
Give place to sadness, yes, rejoice,
Though minor-keyed the east wind's voice.
My message is, "Dear heart, rejoice!"
There are two good rules which ought to be written on every heart—never to believe anything bad about anybody unless you positively know it to be true; never to tell even that, unless you feel that it is absolutely necessary, and that God is listening while you tell it.
Dr. Henry Van Dyke.
