In March, 1894, our dear little boy, two years old, passed on with only a few hours' sickness. The doctor called it spinal meningitis. I had been poorly all winter, hardly able to get around, and the sorrow caused by our loss was more than I could bear and I became very sick. I went East in August to visit my sister, and there heard of Christian Science.
I went to see a practitioner and was so impressed with what she said that I went to church on Sunday with my husband. The lesson was on Jesus before the doctors at twelve years of age. It was most beautifully expressed, and although I knew the story it seemed as if it were new. I made an engagement with the lady who led the meeting for Tuesday following. I was given a treatment, and in three weeks was healed of a spinal trouble which I had had since a child twelve years old, when a chair had been pulled from under me and my spine hurt very badly. In after years the doctors wanted to amputate the end of the spine, but my father would not consent. I had also headache which was inherited from my mother and grandfather, both of whom died from congestion of the brain. When suffering one of those headaches I could not bear the light, or even a step in the room, the pain would be so great. The doctor usually gave me morphine at such times, and I would be in bed three days. The second Sunday while in Brooklyn I was unable to hold my head up any length of time, but with help I got ready and went to the Christian Science Church. During that service the pain left, and it was the last severe headache I have had. This was nine years ago. I was also healed of chronic constipation and liver complaint in its worst form. They have all gone down before the touch of Truth.
My husband was interested in Christian Science from the first, and three years ago we were privileged to receive class instruction from the practitioner who helped me. I am thankful to say we have been able to help others as well as ourselves over various ailments. We feel grateful to Mrs. Eddy for the discovery of this truth and to our teacher for her labor in presenting it to us. We realize that we can best show our gratitude by obeying Principle and bringing out in our every-day life the benefits resulting therefrom.—Sarah D. Pierpoint, Pittsburg, Penn.
